Pope Francis elevated the Syro-Malabar Exarchate in Canada to Eparchy (Diocese) with the title of Mississauga and appointed His Excellency Mar Jose Kalluvelil as the Eparch (Bishop). The official announcement was done in Rome on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 12.00 noon, Canadian time in Ontario at 6.00 am and Indian time at 4.30 pm.

Apostolic Exarchate for the Syro-Malabar Catholics in Canada

August 06, 2015, was the golden day God chose to reveal His amazing plan for the Syro-Malabar Catholics in Canada announcing the establishment of the Exarchate and appointment of Mar Jose Kalluvelil as Exarch. The Episcopal Ordination ceremony of Mar Jose Kalluvelil took place at the Canadian Coptic Centre in Mississauga, Ontario on September 19, 2015.  This historic event was witnessed by more than 1,000 attendees as well as many other viewers around the world through live telecast by Shalom TV. The Exarchate’s objective is to take care of the spiritual needs of the Syro-Malabar Catholics all over Canada in accordance with the Vision and Mission of the Exarch.
